3 Tips for Preparing Grass-Fed Prime Beef Cuts

February 06, 20251 min read

Preparing grass-fed prime beef requires a slightly different approach than grain-fed beef to maximize its flavor and tenderness. Here are three essential tips:

1. Bring to Room Temperature Before Cooking

Grass-fed beef is leaner and cooks faster than conventional beef. Take it out of the fridge at least 30–40 minutes before cooking to ensure even cooking and prevent toughness.

2. Cook Low and Slow or Sear and Rest

Since grass-fed beef has less fat, it benefits from gentler cooking methods:

  • For steaks: Sear over high heat for a short time, then let it rest for at least 5–10 minutes to retain juices.

  • For roasts: Cook at a lower temperature (around 275°F–325°F) for a longer time to keep it tender.

3. Don’t Overdo Seasoning – Let the Beef Shine

Grass-fed beef has a richer, more complex flavor than grain-fed beef. Use simple seasonings like sea salt, black pepper, and fresh herbs to enhance its natural taste without overpowering it. If marinating, choose oil-based marinades to help with moisture retention.
